Chemistry vs Compatibility

What really sustains a relationship over time.

Intense chemistry can make a relationship look far more compatible than it really is. Attraction is strong, conversation clicks, desire grows fast, and everything feels exceptional. Feeling a lot for someone still does not answer what sustains a life together: do you want the same things, can you respect each other, handle conflict well, share values, is there reciprocity?

That is exactly where many people get lost. The stronger the chemistry, the easier it is to relativize incompatibilities. You start calling a detail what, in another context, would be decisive. Differences about commitment, availability, loyalty, the future, routine, and communication get pushed to later because the connection feels too strong to leave. Chemistry does not fix structure.

Chemistry often brings attraction, intensity, and enthusiasm—especially early on. Compatibility asks for shared values, respect, communication, and daily building. Both matter; neither replaces the other. When the intensity cools, what remains is the structure you can (or cannot) sustain together.
